About Merle

Merle Harbron is an independant composer, musician and singer with an extensive knowledge and experience of folk and traditional music. Hailing from both the North East of England and the West Highlands of Scotland, Merle has married English and Scottish styles of fiddle playing whilst carrying an array of wider musical influences in her work.

As well as folk, Merle enjoys playing and studying Early Music. Merle plays the hurdy gurdy and viola da gamba. After doing an undergraduate degree in Folk and Traditional Music, Merle is currently doing a postgraduate degree in History.

Merle regularly performs with folk trio Holly & the Reivers, and in a duo with Sam Baxter. She is also part of Coseys’s Ex Collective.

Merle is a recipient of the Arts Council England DYCP grant, which is now supporting her with her own solo development. She has also previously received the ACE Project Grant for her collective music project, Shillelagh Sessions.

Outside of music, Merle enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible; gardening, hedge bothering and crafting.
